Riverside is situated in the small hamlet of Westport mid way between Langport and Ilminster and about half an hour's drive from the county town of Taunton. It makes an ideal base for touring, visiting the many places of interest in the area.

Yeovilton's Fleet Air museum, where the prototype of Concorde is housed with many more famous and interesting displays. Cricket St.Thomas, originally made famous by the TV series "To The Manor Born", and more recently as a Wildlife Park is near. In the locality are several National Trust Properties, famous for their architecture and gardens with Barrington Court less than 2 miles away, Montacute House and Forde Abbey also near.

The Roman Town of Bath and the recently extended Clarks Village make interesting and worthwhile day trips. For those interested in wildlife the Sedgemoor Lowlands and Wetlands offer a wonderful opportunity to view the many species of birds that make this rare environment their natural habitat. The River Parrett at Langport is an ideal place for the keen fisherman or to discover the Parrett landscape.

Along the South Coast is Lyme Regis with it's harbour and Cobb as seen in the film "The French Lieutenant Woman" or West Bay where the filming of "Heart Beat" took place. Plus various other fishing and beach resorts.

Closer to home, just opposite the cottage, explore the droves or wander along the canal bank, with cycle hire and planned routes available at Langport. And within a couple 100 yards is the "Old Barn Owl", the local, which has an excellent reputation for food and proved a very popular haunt for many visitors in previous years.

These are just a few ideas of what you can see and do during your stay, there are many more ideas in a places of interest folder which is kept at the cottage for you to browse and plan at your leisure.
